A FUND set up in honour of a York pilot who was killed in an air crash has topped £3,000.
Andrew Cantle, 27, who lived in Rawcliffe with his partner, Beth Webster, died when he and a colleague were making a third attempt to land in thick fog following a flight from Belfast to Cork.
Both Mr Cantle and his colleague, Jordi Lopez, died in the crash along with four passengers. Six others survived.
Mr Cantle was a well known member of his home town of Sunderland’s RNLI, taking part in 65 emergency missions rescuing 66 people.
His parents have thanked everyone who made donations to the Sunderland station, which has received around £3,300.
The money will be used to fund an RNLI casualty care training course for 12 volunteers in Sunderland.
