FIREFIGHTERS and the police were called after a car knocked over traffic lights in Lawrence Street.
A fire crew helped to make the vehicle safe as the electricity was thought to be still live in the lights, a fire service spokesman said.
The two people travelling in the car were taken to York Hospital.
Council technicians were called to secure the lights following the collision at about 6.30pm yesterday.
