FOOTBALL stars of the future showed off their skills at the annual Wigginton Grasshoppers Mini-Soccer Tournament.
More than 90 teams, from Under-7s to U13s, took part in the two-day festival.
The event is Wigginton’s main fundraiser of the year.
Apart from young players from the home club, there were teams from across North Yorkshire and from further afield, including Darlington, Gateshead, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Durham, Pontefract, Sunderland, Sheffield and Leeds.
Tournament secretary Chris Garrett said: “The weekend was a great success.
“The football was of a very high standard and everyone – the children and the parents – enjoyed themselves.
“The refereeing was also of a high standard and everything ran to time.”
He thanked the club’s fundraising committee for coming up with some new ideas for the festival and he hoped these could be expanded on for next year’s tournament.
