A COUPLE from York were celebrating their diamond wedding today.
Gordon and Jean Massey, from Riverside Walk in Nether Poppleton, met while on holiday in Blackpool in 1947.
The couple continually travelled between their home towns of York and Darlington to see each other before tying the knot 60 years ago. They married in Darlington before Jean, now 80, moved to York.
Both Gordon, 86, and Jean worked at Poppleton Nurseries which they owned. Since retiring, the couple spend most of their time with their extensive family, which include their children David and Pauline, grandchildren Graham, Jennifer and Helen, and their great-grandchildren Harry and Ella.
Asked the secret to a long and happy marriage, Jean said: “Always agreeing and getting on with things.”
