REGARDING Tom Mitchell’s letter referring to the £500,000 it costs to protect Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, who are no longer going to be provided with the 24-hour cover which the taxpayer has to pay for (Letters, May 11).
In this age of cutbacks and recession, it is time these young folks realised how much average people have to live on.
Also their mother, the Duchess of York, was seen on American television moaning about not being invited to the royal wedding.
She loves to be in the public eye. I think she needs to be stripped of her title. She has not done a lot to represent our fine city.
Maybe her ex-husband could vote on this suggestion, also if he wishes the 24-hour protection for his daughters he should pay for it, not the taxpayers of this country.
