Arran Naismith was man of the match following his hat-trick as Heworth ARLC Under-13s beat Rodley Rockets 40-24.

The Villagers were the stronger team in defence, with newcomer Leon Cowling earning the top tackler award, which compensated for their poor ball handling.

Alex Thomas ran the full length to touch down and further tries came from Aaron Varndell and Harry Radcliffe, with conversions added by Louis Brown and Jacob Sunderland.

Heworth U11s produced a mighty defensive effort as they won 34-12 at Whinmoor Warriors.

The Villagers fought like Trojans to keep the hosts from scoring in the second half, with the moment of the game coming when they defended 18 consecutive tackles on their own line – and then went the full length of the field after quick hands put Jimmy Pigott clear out wide to score a fantastic try.

Jamie Morrison, Alfie Hancock, Cain North and Iain Oakley had their best games for the club, yet wingers Pigott and Lester Massey were the men of the match as they gave the team width and defended brilliantly.

Tom Kilgar and Shay North scored two tries apiece and were heavily involved in defence. Sam Young’s try wrapped up the excellent win.

Heworth U15s had only 11 players against table-toppers Featherstone Lions and went on to lose 56-6, despite taking the lead through Jack Rowson from acting-half, Dave Larkin goaling from the touchline. Heworth battled gamely and the final score flattered the visitors as they scored 24 points in the last ten minutes.

The in-form Lewis Young scored a try and was man of the match as New Earswick U9s, boosted by a fine debut by William Harrison, gave a solid performance against a strong Normanton side.

Ellena Powell also crossed, while Brooke Myhill took the top tackler accolade due to the quality of her defence. Magnus Fielding upped his game to take the ‘rising star’ gong, while the ‘magic moment’ was Joshua Walton’s massive hit in defence.

Super tackling earned Bradley Burns the man-of-the-match award as Heworth U9s had another great win against a strong Dudley Hill.

Niall Bowlby was top tackler, Charlie Nicholson the most improved player, and Harry Griffiths won the ‘magic moment’ gong for his super try. Kian Oliver scored a hat-trick while Austin Cole and Bowlby also crossed.
