THIS unusual hat turned heads on the last day of the May meeting at York racecourse.
And one group of friends who have been tap dancing together for 20 years celebrated milestone birthdays with a chauffeured trip to the races.
The friends, who are members of the Evelyn Witcombe School of Dance in York, met at the home of Liz Fletcher in Burnholme Grove to enjoy bubbly and nibbles while waiting for their Hummer limousine.
Liz said the luxury ride and day out was to mark the 50th birthday of Gill Gould and Sharon Yeoman’s 40th.
“There’s a big group of us,” Liz said. “We have been dancing together for about 25 years and we all dance at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre every year to raise money for good causes. We always try and get together for special occasions.”
Some of their group had been unable to attend but they were planning a meal together afterwards.
