THE 60th anniversary of the revival of York Mystery Plays is to be marked by a special event later this month.
Archive film footage, courtesy of The Yorkshire Film Archive, will give people a look behind the scenes at the 1951 and 1954 performances of the Plays.
Images from the earliest productions, both fixed stage and on wagons, will be displayed, and there will be readings of the words of the people who brought the event into being as part of York’s contribution to The Festival Of Britain.
“We are very interested to hear from people with their own stories, photographs, and memorabilia and would welcome such items being made available at the event,” said chairman Roger Lee, who can be contacted on 01904 653698 or by emailing: info@yorkmysteryplays.co.uk “This is a free event, but we do ask that people register to attend.”
York Mystery Plays: Words and Images takes place on Wednesday, May 25, at 7.30pm at Bedern Hall off St Andrewgate.
