A YORK man celebrated his 100th birthday today with a family gathering.
James Wilkinson, of Grimston Court in Hull Road, is a retired railway worker and was a talented sportsman.
The youngest of five, Mr Wilkinson was born in Starbeck, Harrogate, in 1911 and later lived in the Keighley area with his wife, Rene.
He moved to York to live near his nephews and nieces and moved to Grimston Court three years ago, his family said. Mr Wilkinson was a keen golfer, with a handicap in single figures, and loved walking and going to the races. He was also a goalkeeper for the Harrogate Town Youth Team.
His family visited him at his home to mark the occasion.
