MORE than 20 schools in North Yorkshire have signed up to take part in a national event to raise environmental awareness.
Green Britain Day, organised by EDF Energy, will involve activities throughout the country to inspire people to take action against climate change.
Nationally, 1,350 schools will take part in the scheme, including 22 from North Yorkshire, who will hold events including wearing all-green clothes to school, organised litter picks, planting seeds and creating a sensory garden.
Schools in York taking part include Mount Pleasant Junior School, Pocklington Infant School, Elvington and Warter Primary Schools, as well as Longmans Primary School in Selby and Roecliffe Primary School in Boroughbridge.
Robyn Broughton, EDF Energy schools’ programme manager, said: “It is fantastic that schools in North Yorkshire are joining others across the country to showcase their efforts to become more sustainable. We can only tackle climate change effectively by working together as a team.”
