BUSINESSES in York are being invited to compete against each other in one of the city’s biggest athletic events.
About 6,000 runners are expected to pound the city’s streets on Sunday, July 31, in the third Jane Tomlinson York 10K, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities in memory of the sporting and fundraising legend.
This year Run For All organisers have relaunched the York 10k Corporate Challenge.
The Morrison Utility Services-sponsored event encourages businesses to enter a team in the event and raise money for charities close to their hearts.
Dave Marcroft, area operations manager for Morrison Utility Services, said: “We are proud to be involved with this year’s corporate challenge.
“The York 10K is a fantastic event which raises large amounts of money not only for national campaigns but also for charities closer to home here in York.”
Jane died in September 2007 after losing her fight against cancer.
Despite her pain and illness, she participated in a number of high-profile endurance challenges and raised £1.85 million for charity before her death.
Jane’s widower, Mike, said: “Following the highly successful corporate challenges in both Leeds and Hull we are really looking forward to working with Morrison in York to encourage local companies to pull on their running shoes and hopefully raise lots of money for charity.”
The Morrison Utility Services Corporate Challenge is open to all businesses from global corporations to small local businesses and is encouraged as an opportunity for team building within communities.
Organisations can enter a team of between three and ten people with their purchase of the corporate package at a cost of £500.
The package includes company branded T-shirts, inclusion on the 10K website, hospitality and networking events, team photography and corporate prizes. To enter or for more information, email corporate@runforall.com or phone 0113 812 9100.
This year’s York 10K route will once again incorporate many of the city’s landmarks, including York Minster and Clifford’s Tower.
