DO any other readers wonder whether TV/radio reporters on programmes such as Look North and Calendar ever think what on earth are they doing reporting on people’s misfortunes, often trivial?
Everyone has spells of bad luck. At 67 years, I have never, ever, come across anyone who has not had a major misfortune in life. The positive side is that it toughens you up.
Most viewers watch TV for escapism. They don’t want the negative aspects of life imposed on them. Everyone has enough problems of their own, especially in today’s high-speed, cut-throat world.
Even picking up the phone to speak to the correct person over some issue can be a trauma nowadays; press this button, press that button, press another button; sorry, you are back where, ten minutes ago, you started.
