POLICE are searching for two men who attempted to steal a caravan from a property near Selby in broad daylight.

The attempted theft occurred in Gravelhill Lane, Whitley, at about 10.15am on Monday.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said the two men were driving a Peugeot Expert van, which was later found to have been stolen, and was abandoned at the property when they fled on foot before police officers arrived.

The first suspect is described as being tall, white, in his late 20s, and was wearing a shiny black coat, with jeans and white trainers.

The second man was described as white, about 6ft tall with a slim build and tanned complexion, and wearing a red T-shirt and grey trousers.

The police spokeswoman said the men may have been picked up nearby in a Ford Fiesta or Ford Mondeo.
