RESIDENTS in a North Yorkshire village have been offered free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors by Selby District Council.
Up to ten residents in Hensall will receive the detectors and a free home fire risk check under a new initiative set up by the Southern Community Engagement Forum (CEF).
Dennis Tredgett, vice chairman of the Southern CEF, said: “We all have a responsibility to ensure that vulnerable, often elderly, members of our community are safe in their homes.
“This scheme will help us protect these people and help them sleep safely in their homes. In the long-term, we hope that we will be able to extend this scheme to other areas.”
At risk, vulnerable and elderly residents will be sent letters in the next few weeks inviting them to take part in the scheme.
