THE uplifting tale of an orphan who wins everyone over with her guileless charm is coming under the spotlight at a North Yorkshire school.
Staff and students at Queen Mary’s School, Topcliffe, near Thirsk, have spent several months preparing for their production of Annie next week.
The title role is to be played by Florida-born Tess Silknitter, while Polly Barker takes the role of Miss Hannigan, who runs the orphanage, and millionaire benefactor Daddy Warbucks is played by Olivia Surtees.
A total of 29 girls are involved in putting on the play, to be staged in the school’s Great Hall on Tuesday and Thursday.
The production, which includes songs such as Tomorrow and It’s The Hard Knock Life, is being directed by Anthea Shepherdson, who said the girls were enjoying learning the Broadway musical.
