A YORK charity has made a final donation to the University of York’s Centre For Lifelong Learning (CLL), prior to its closure.
The York Settlement Trust, which has supported the university by underwriting the purchase of academic journals, offering student prizes and promoting the value of quality education to all, for many years, will dissolve as a charitable organisation later this year.
The trust has donated £110,000 towards the CLL, to support outreach initiatives in the city and make education more accessible to the local community.
Stephen Sayers, from the Trust, said: “This gift to the Centre provides the Trustees with an appropriate conclusion to their activities by keeping the spirit of the York Educational Settlement alive and well in the heart of the city.”
Lesley Booth, Head of Lifelong Learning at the CLL, said: “The Centre was delighted to receive this gift.
“The past seven years have seen us develop a friendship with the Trustees which we hope will continue beyond this donation as we continue to embrace aspiration raising for York adults.”
