A YOUNG family had a lucky escape after a fire broke out in a cupboard at their East Yorkshire home.
Firefighters were called to a house in Queensgate, Bridlington, in the early of Tuesday morning with the owners and their five-year-old daughter having managed to get out of the property after their smoke alarm sounded.
“We encountered very high temperatures from a fire which was producing large amounts of very dense smoke,” said Mark Walster, the Humberside Fire & Rescue Service officer in charge of the incident.
“The family had been alerted by the smoke alarm, which had melted and fallen to the floor but was still sounding. If it had not sounded, I am certain this would have been a much more serious incident.”
He said the fire had been prevented from spreading because a door linking two rooms within the house had been closed. An electrical fault has been blamed for starting the fire.
