VETERAN anglers held sway in two good entries at Laybourne Lakes despite testing weather.
A total of 27 veterans tackled a windswept venue but the fish fed well in some areas. Pete Webster led the under-70s from peg 30 where pole and pellet accounted for an all-carp 61lb 6oz. Ray Peart took second on pole and paste from peg 2 with 52lb 2oz.
Others: Kev Keane 44-14-0; Den Murray 34-8-0.
The over-70s contest went to Alec Lambourne from peg D1 where a mix of pellet and paste brought him 25lb 12oz of skimmers and carp.
Others: Barry Richardson 23-14-0; Keith Jennings 22-0-0; Frank Harvey 21-8-0.
A total of 32 rodmen contested the York DAA late spring contest.
Rich Darling led the field from peg 44 where he pole-fished pellet for an excellent carp bag of 81lb 12oz. In second was Vic Rookes with 41lb 9oz from peg two. John Miller completed the top three with 40lb 2oz from peg 46.
Others: Kev Ellerby 29-4-0; Brian Harrison 26-6-0; Keith Schofield 25-0-0.
Pegs on the match lake dominated round nine of the Bob-Co Spring Series at Carpvale on Sunday.
Stuart Wilson (Leeds Angling Centre) bucked the trend from peg 13 which was to prove a lucky draw on a blustery day at the Nun Monkton complex.
Fishing into open water he was limited to just eight metres of pole by the wind, so opted for a chopped worm attack.
Using dendrabena hook baits he tempted 12 carp, plus a solitary bream, for a winning 53lb 10oz.
Top spot on the match lake went to Steve Mazza (Bob-Co) from peg 44 where he alternated meat and corn down the edge for 21 smaller carp scaling 44lb 9oz.
Third place went to Mick Addinall (Spectrum) who used similar tactics from peg 49 for his level 42lb.
Others: Mick Doyle (Leeds Angling Centre) 39-8-0; Mick Green (Green’s Fisheries) 36-4-0; Dave Wright (Bob-Co) 36-2-0.
Cold and blustery winds slowed the action at Langwith Lakes, where Jake Duckworth found his 67lb 13oz enough to earn the win.
Drawn at peg 29 on Bethany’s Lake, he used pellet tight to both near and far banks to find carp to three pounds.
Top on Kevin’s Lake and second overall was Mick Butler who concentrated on the near margins at peg ten for 64lb 2oz to his credit.
Others: Graham Twohey 61-13-0; 4 Julian Griffin 61-0-0; 5 Tim Bell 59-9-0.
Top carp capture
Mick Sykes led from peg 15 in the midweek open at the Kingfisher Pond at Tollerton Ponds, where he found the carp feeding up in the water.
Fishing shallow with pellet he bagged 114lb 10oz of fish to 6lb.
Dick Morley continued his good run from peg 8 where the bomb and 8mm pellet found carp to 8lb.
Others: Graham Twohey 64-6-0; Graham Dawkins 56-8-0.
