ACOMB arrows ace Chris Thompson suffered a 6-4 defeat to world number five Simon Whitlock at the Austrian Open Players Championship.
The Ainsty player had earlier defeated Hans-Peter Benseler 6-0 to set up a second round meeting with the 2010 World Championship runner-up.
In the second Austrian Players Championship event, Thompson bowed out in the first round 6-3 to Michael Smith.
Thompson, meanwhile, will be second up on board five at the Sky Sports-televised Speedy Hire UK Open when he takes on preliminary round opponent Nigel Heydon in Bolton on June 2.
The winner of that game will then switch to board six to face Matthew Edgar and, if Thompson is triumphant again, he will play his third match of a long night against Eddy Martin, Andy Pearce or Matt Jackson in what is due to be the last clash on board seven.
Thompson’s Ainsty team-mate Martyn Turner is second up on board seven for his first round tie against Tommy Little. The victor will take on either former World Masters winner Colin Monk or Ryan Murray on board two.
