A BOY from York has entered a national competition to create a model of a famous locomotive.
Angus Gatus, nine, from Dringhouses, created his diorama to show the Flying Scotsman travelling through a tunnel and into the countryside.
The competition is run by York’s National Railway Museum (NRM), and the winner will get the chance to travel in a carriage behind the newly restored Flying Scotsman.
Helen Ashby, Head of Knowledge & Collections at the museum, said: “The competition has been a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to come together and celebrate Flying Scotsman’s return to steam this summer.
“It’s all down to the public now to determine the winner, and we’re urging everyone to visit the exhibition or get online to ensure their local entries are on track to scoop the top prize.”
All 34 entries are on show in the NRM’s temporary exhibition, and are also available to view online at nrm.org.uk/scotsmancomp and the public can vote for their favourite model from tomorrow until Sunday, June 12.
* The Flying Scotsman will be on display on the NRM’s turntable in its Wartime LNER black livery over bank holiday weekend, May 28 to May 30.
