A CRICKET club in North Yorkshire hopes to be the first A+ energy-rated sports ground in the UK.
Plans for a new multi-sports pavilion for Saxton Cricket Club, near Tadcaster, have been under way for almost five years, and developers are weeks away from starting work on the site.
Once the work is complete, the heavily-insulated pavilion will use solar power to heat water, rainwater to flush toilets and irrigate pitches, and a wind turbine to provide electricity to the building, and potentially sell back to the National Grid.
The club is also in with a chance to win £1,000 towards the project, in a competition involving groups across the country.
