DM Martin is quite right to point out to Ida Goodrick that we did not beat the Germans in two world wars alone but with the backing of the Commonwealth and the USA (Letters, May 17).
She should also remember that about two-thirds of the German armed forces were on the Russian front, and without the Soviet sacrifice things might have been very different.
