WOMEN drivers are being invited to try their hand at manoeuvring fire engines, 4x4s, HGVs, JCBs and tractors at a fundraising event organised by the Fire Fighters Charity.
The Ladies’ Driving Challenge will take place at Tockwith Motorsports Centre, York, on September 25.
Event organiser Dave Mansfield said: “Following the success of last year’s Ladies Driving Challenge, we are able to offer another fantastic opportunity and challenge the region’s lady drivers with the chance to operate a fantastic collection of vehicles often associated with male drivers.
“Other types of driving event can be uncomfortably competitive with an emphasis on speed, whereas we aim to provide a fun, and stress free experience.
“The women-only challenge is much more relaxed with the focus on handling vehicles with skill and enjoying new experiences, as well as raising money for a good cause.”
All women over the age of 17 with a full driving licence can attend either the morning or afternoon sessions. Registra-tion costs £10 and entrants are asked to raise a minimum of £90 in sponsorship with prizes on offer for those who raise the most money, including meal vouchers, hotel stays and a flight in a light aircraft.
All proceeds from the event will go to The Fire Fighters Charity – a charity dedicated to supporting firefighters and their families in times of need. Dave said: “Behind the fun, there is a very serious message.
“We are supporting those heroic firefighters who risk their lives for us.
“When they run into a burning building, there is always the very real risk of serious injury, and when the worst happens not only firefighters suffer, but also their families.
“Every 37 seconds in the UK, firefighters are called to an incident, putting their lives on the line, and often sustaining physical injuries while carrying out their duties.
“The Fire Fighters Charity is here for firefighters during their times of need, and assists thousands of individuals every year, by providing pioneering treatment and support services.”
To take part, entrants should request a registration pack from Dave by phoning 07825 182621 or emailing dmansfield@firefighterscharity.org.uk.
