RACING fans descended on York in their thousands, as the city’s racecourse hosted another day of high drama and excitement.
About 27,500 people packed into Knavesmire on Saturday, the first of six Saturday race days at the course.
They watched as jockey Eddie Ahern romped to victory with Times Up in the main event, the Stowe Family Law LLP Grand Cup.
Flamboyant fashions also stood out with a number of women dressed to impress.
Racecourse manager James Brennan said he was pleased with the size of the crowd. “It was very good turnout and a nice start to the first of our six Saturday meets,” he said.
“Thankfully it stayed dry and although it was quite breezy everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and it was a great atmosphere.”
