ALTHOUGH I commented on the fact that James Alexander had on occasions used The Press Letters pages in order to burnish his Labour policy image, it would be churlish not to congratulate him on his success in the recent local elections.

Nevertheless, I have a kindly word of warning for Coun Alexander.

If at any time in the future he does not come up to expectations as leader of the council, then even his most dedicated Labour supporters could suggest that emancipation had not been such a good idea after all!

Especially so as I believe Coun Alexander is an old boy of an elite school in London.
