OUR Queen did a marvellous job visiting Eire, and I was not against her visit, but I would like to have seen and heard some apologies or the word “sorry” from the Irish nation. We did some wrong and terrible things, and so did they, and I think both needed to admit this during this historic occasion.
I felt sorry for the Queen having to stand for long periods of time, having to negotiate so many steps and staircases, having to bow and make a long dinner speech. She is 85 and it is the politicians who caused the troubles, not our monarchy.
Hopefully, a line can now be drawn, much of the past not continually raked up, and both nations can look forward, be positive, be friendly, and give youth a chance.
