THREE cycling friends from a York church will retrace the route of highwayman Dick Turpin when they cycle from London to the Yorkshire capital in a single day.
Barrister Crispin Oliver and fellow members of the Clifton Parish Church congregation Stuart Edwards and Mark Jenner hope to raise £10,000 for the Tubakunde project in Rwanda, which provides day care and education for needy children and has been linked to their church for several years.
The inspiration for the 214-mile ride came when Mr Oliver saw the grave of Dick Turpin through the window of York County Court where he was representing a client.
The Dean of York, the Very Rev Keith Jones, will be waiting at York Minster between 8pm and 9pm for the trio on June 25 at the end of the ride, which will start at 5am and take them by as level and quiet a route as possible — through Bishop Stortford, Peterborough, Lincoln and Selby.
