DURING the past few months, the road passing York Station has acquired a painted green lane threading through several lanes which lead to bus stops and passing traffic.
This is obviously for cyclists heading towards the Lendal bridge and Rougier Street; those in the opposite direction are not so privileged.
This is the busiest area in the city. For cyclists along this green line, the phrase “dicing with death” comes to mind; those in the other direction do so without a hint from ‘green’.
Green lanes are manifesting throughout the city around busy roundabouts, etc.
Surely this is brushing aside the road sense of most cyclists, who have been negotiating these routes, in many cases for years, without garish green paint, which is only intermittent.
