ROGER Westmoreland (Letters, May 21) reminds me of my recent letter (Between a rock and a hard place, Letters, April 22) in which I pointed out the well-known military truth that, “You cannot win a war from the air alone”.
As Roger points out, the terror attacks are increasing support for Gaddafi. But the real reason why support for Gaddafi is not waning is because the people of Tripoli are being lied to and the propaganda war is being won by the Gaddafi family. The captured troops of Gaddafi are saying that they expected to be fighting al Qaida.
NATO should be using the war propaganda method of dropping leaflets, instead of bombs; telling the people of Tripoli the true situation and setting the seeds of doubt in the population, as well as telling them they will find the truth from their brethren from Benghazi.
The population of Tripoli is far higher than the population of Benghazi.
