GLENN Hughes, member of Trapeze and Deep Purple, stated in his interview with Charles Hutchinson (The Press, May 23), that he could not remember ever playing in York.
I would like to jog his memory by letting him know that Trapeze appeared twice at York’s Hypnotique in Lady Peckitt’s Yard (Thurs, October 29 1970 and Thursday July 15, 1971).
In addition to being the resident DJ at this club, I was responsible for booking all the bands, and associated publicity. Admission for all bands was five shillings (pre-decimalisation) which became 25 pence after the change.
Among other bands to appear here were Thin Lizzie (June 24, 1971), Skid Row (December 17 Dec 1970 and December 9, 1971), Supertramp (December 10, 1970) and Wishbone Ash (October 22, 1970).
I have managed to collate all adverts which appeared in the York Evening Press, which also include details of all the soul acts who featured, but that’s a different story.
