Updated: A PENSIONER suffered serve facial injuries after crashing his moped near a York secondary school.
The 84-year-old also suffered head injuries in the accident at about 9.45am yesterday.
The incident closed Haxby Road in both directions between the A1237 outer ring road and Willow Bank roundabout.
The pensioner, a local man, was heading out of York, towards the A1237, on his grey moped when he came off the vehicle at a mini-roundabout near Joseph Rowntree School.
A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “He was treated at the scene for some quite nasty injuries, including trauma to his head. He was taken to York Hospital for further treatment.” The man remained in hospital, though his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
Traffic Constable Zoe Billings, of North Yorkshire Police’s roads policing group, asked anyone who witnessed the crash, or how the moped was being driven before the incident, to contact her as soon as possible.
She said: “I would also like to hear from anyone who may have stopped at the scene to assist the man before the arrival of the ambulance service.”
If you can help police, phone TC Billings on 0845 6060247, quoting reference 12110085055, or Crimestoppers can be phoned anonymously on 0800 555 111.
