TOWN councils in East Yorkshire are being encouraged to fund their own community policing officers.
Humberside Police Authority said the suggestion was “not in response to budget cuts” and that it could instead foster closer links between the officers and residents.
Hessle Town Council has funded a police community support officer since 2006 with the scheme costing £28,000 a year, 20 per cent of its annual budget.
