A NEW service in Selby has urged residents to get involved in their community by volunteering.
The new Selby Volunteering Centre at Community House will be launched at the start of June, to coincide with national volunteer week.
Kathy Donnelly, volunteer champion for Selby, said: “Many residents of Selby give their time to help others, yet don’t really consider themselves volunteers.
“If you help out with the school PTA, you’re a volunteer. If you coach at the rugby club, you’re a volunteer. If you’re a committee member of a local charity or group, you’re also a volunteer.”
Representatives from the centre will also host a stall at the Selby Fun Day, on Sunday, June 19, at Scott Road Community Care Centre, to give advice and information on volunteer groups and opportunities.
For more information on volunteering opportunities, phone Kathy on 01757 291111, extension 209, or email volunteering@selbyavs.org
