KNAVESMIRE Harriers’ ladies’ team have enjoyed a fine start to the York & District Summer League, with two wins from two.
The first ten-kilometre race, at Pocklington, saw Acorn’s Andy Hilton win in 34 minutes 34 seconds.
The ladies’ race was won by Knavesmire’s Emma Yates (39-56), who was backed up by Caroline Warrington (41-27), Katie Godfrey (43-02) and Fiona Strange (45-02) to take the team award.
Other age group winners from the Mire were veteran Mike McGrath (41-53) and, in the female 55 category, Maureen Meddler (51.22).
Pocklington’s Dennis Speck won the second race at Tadcaster in 35-44, and club-mate Helen Cross returned to form to take the ladies’ race in 38-16.
Knavesmire men were third in the team event through Darren Hendley (36-45), Ian Anderson (36-46), Simon Collins (38-03), Chris Roberts (39-07), Andy Booth (39-27) and Mark Lawrence (39-41), but the Mire ladies again took first place through Yates (40-09), Andrea Lancaster (42-38), Strange (45-56) and Janet Corrdingley (46-26).
Yates also won the Ripon 10 in 69 minutes. Club-mates Barry Atkinson clocked three hours 57 minutes and Gilles Hawking 4-02 in the Three Peaks fell race.
