All right, so the weather’s not been great. But when summer does finally arrive you will need a home with a good garden, says Brian Page.

Summer? What summer would that be then? That’s the reply I got from one of our friends in the lettings market this week.

We’d rather naively suggested we might look at properties with gardens to let. It being summer and all that – and how you might like somewhere to sit out in the sunshine.

Well, yes, this week has been a bit blustery. Not exactly sitting in the garden weather, we admit (unless you are strapped to the garden chair with very heavy ropes).

But, being a born optimist, we are sure things will get better. In which case you will want to have a look at some of these properties with gardens… Starting with a very intriguing property in Oakwood Village, Newton on Derwent. It’s a two-bed detached lodge home – with a hot tub on the decking! “Ideal for chilling on a summer evening,” say the folk at Quantum who sent us the details.

Plenty to interest inside this fully-furnished (and stylishly kitted out) property, too.

Located just to the east of York in a small development of lodges, it offers three bedrooms, the master having an en-suite, and a large open-plan living space.

Available immediately, the rental is £750pcm.

Letters Ltd, meanwhile, are offering a pair of more traditional homes. The first is in Chaloners Road, Dringhouses, a good-sized three-bedroomed unfurnished property set on a corner plot and which has recently been partially redecorated. It offers a reception room with electric fire and a spacious modern dining kitchen with gas cooker, fridge, chest freezer and washing machine. Two of the bedrooms are good doubles with fitted cupboards/wardrobes and there is a single bedroom with fitted cupboard and a modern bathroom suite with shower over bath. The gardens here come to front, side and rear. The rental is £725pcm.

Next up is a smart mid town house in Vavasour Court, Copmanthorpe, overlooking a green in a cul-de-sac in this popular village with easy access to the A64. Here you’ll find a reception room and a dining kitchen with gas hob, electric oven, fridge and plumbing for washing machine. There’s a double bedroom and a single bedroom with fitted wardrobe and bathroom. The rear garden has a shed and there is ample parking.

The rental is £600pcm.

We move back into York for our next property, situated in Wasdale Close, Rawcliffe.

It is a recently refurbished spacious bungalow situated in a quiet cul de sac. The accommodation here offers an entrance hall, lounge with feature fireplace, utility room, kitchen (with side door to garden), a double bedroom with patio doors to garden, two further double bedrooms and a bathroom. It’s a large garden here and there is the added benefit of a garage. A “must be viewed property” say the marketing agents Martin and Co. The rental is £850pcm.

Not too far away, we have another pleasant family home, this one on the books of Linley and Simpson. It is in Yearsley Crescent in the Huntington Road area, a three-bed semi-detached close to good local amenities and handy for Nestle, Monks Cross and the district hospital.

Offered unfurnished, it comprises an entrance hall, downstairs cloakroom, an open-plan lounge/diner with patio doors to the garden and a kitchen with oven, hob, dishwasher, fridge and, again, a patio door to garden. There are two double bedrooms with built-in wardrobes, a single bedroom and a bathroom with shower over the bath.

It also has a driveway, single garage with separate office area and a good rear garden.

The rental is £750pcm.

Now it’s out of town for our final two properties… The first of these is can be found in Maxwell Road, Pocklington. Available unfurnished from mid- June, the property is currently undergoing a period of refurbishment. It’s a smart, deceptively spacious family home in a sought after spot.

The living accommodation comprises an entrance hall, spacious sitting room, dining room, kitchen and pantry. To the first floor there are three double bedrooms and bedroom four/study along with a family bathroom and separate WC. There are established gardens to the front and rear, a hard standing driveway and brick built single garage. It is offered by Reeds Rains at £950pcm.

And now, in our traditional last but definitely not least spot is a delightful, recently modernised detached house in a splendid peaceful rural position on edge of Skipwith Common (very handy for commuting via the A19 / A64) Offered unfurnished and attractively appointed throughout, it boasts a hallway with cloaks/WC, a good-sized lounge, sitting room and a large refitted L-shaped dining kitchen (with Aga) and utility room. Plenty of bedroom space, too, with four doubles and a bathroom with separate shower cubicle.

And, as you would expect given this week’s theme, it has super gardens which are mature and tranquil (a bit like your property writer). It is on the books of Stephensons at a rental of £1,200pcm.
