TRUANCY figures in York have remained at around the same level as last year, according to Government figures.
Figures compiled for the autumn term 2010, show the percentage of unauthorised absence in York secondary schools dropped slightly from 1.35 per cent in 2009 to 1.32 per cent in 2010 – a figure just below the English average of 1.37 per cent.
In primary schools unauthorised absence rose slightly from 0.52 per cent in 2009 to 0.55 per cent in 2010 – below the national average of 0.75 per cent.
The figures also compare well within Yorkshire and the Humber as unauthorised absence across the region stands at 1.85 per cent in secondary schools and 0.87 per cent in primary schools. A spokesman for the City of York Council said York has some of the lowest persistent absentee figures in the country.
In York primary schools it stood at 2.3 per cent compared with a national average of 3.2 per cent. In secondary schools persistent absentee figures were at 4.8 per cent in York compared with a 5.4 per cent in England.
