THE search is on for the best sausage in Yorkshire.
As other counties have their own official sausages, tourism bosses Welcome to Yorkshire have launched region-wide sampling roadshows to help choose the official Yorkshire banger.
A roadshow visited Parliament Street in York to give local people the chance to sample the sausages and vote.
The six specially designed bangers have been created by Ilkley butcher David Lishman. As well as being one of Rick Stein’s all-time food heroes, David also led the judging on BBC 3’s Young Butcher of the Year in 2009 and 2010.
The winner will be unveiled at a Yorkshire Day celebration on August 1 and the recipe shared with butchers in the region.
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “Yorkshire has a proud and rich history of producing some of the finest food in the country, so it makes perfect sense to celebrate this with a search for a true Yorkshire sausage.”
