AS READERS will know from my occasional contributions to Yesterday Once More, I am a local historian.
I have been researching the life of the York Victorian artist Edwin Ridsdale Tate (1862-1922) for many years. I also give talks on the subject.
I have been fortunate to acquire an original copy of the portfolio Quaint & Historic York, which was published by Tate in 1906, together with historical notes by George Benson, York architect and local historian.
Unfortunately, of the 11 reproductions of pencil drawings by Ridsdale Tate of views of York as it was in 1905/6 initially contained in this set, four appear to be missing, almost certainly because they were attractive enough to be framed.
I wonder if anyone has in their possession one or more of the following four reproductions of pencil drawings by E Ridsdale Tate. I would like to acquire all four, if possible, to make the set complete again.
The four titles are: A glimpse Of The Minster from Stonegate; Pavement And All Saints’ Church, York; Minster from Goodramgate; and Walmgate Bar And Clifford’s Tower.
