IAN Packington, former Lib Dem candidate in the recent council elections, should talk to Labour councillors before commenting on Labour not supporting the recent works in Library Square (Letters, May 25).
Labour councillors were approached by a number of residents who have disabilities. They clearly expressed concern at the removal of most of the disabled parking bay, where they could easily park and have access to the rear of vehicles to remove required equipment.
The replacement bays in Blake Street will not only make access to their vehicles more difficult, but mean difficulty in accessing the library due to having to walk from Blake Street.
While the new layout may look nice, we have to ensure, as a council, that services provided are accessible and the removal of disabled parking bays defeats the idea of this.
Coun Tracey Simpson-Laing, Labour spokesperson for housing, health and adult social services.
