ABOUT 30 firefighters tackled a large shed blaze on the edge of York last night.
Fire crews were called to the blaze, near a farmhouse on Wigginton Road, just after 9pm, after flames were seen.
They extinguished the fire by 10.10pm, but North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the timber-framed shed, which was 15 metres by 10 metres, was destroyed in the fire, along with a car that was being kept inside.
Two crews from York fire station and two from Acomb, as well as firefighters from Easingwold and Huntington were called to the scene, together with police officers, with the blaze sending plumes of black smoke drifting across the Wigginton area.
An officer will return later to inspect the premises fully, but they believe the fire was accidental, caused by residual heat from maintenance work that was being carried out.
