HOW ironic that in the first few days of Coun James Alexander’s Labour-led City of York Council he is bemoaning a £800,000 shortfall for work on council housing due to “inherited debt, waste and unbalanced budgets” (The Press, May 26).
Have a chat with George Osborne about that if you need to – he can give you a good insight into this.
So please save the residents of York from the predictable blame game of criticising the previous administration, and just show us what you and your fellow councillors were voted in for and how you’re going to lead this great city we have from strength to strength.
Mr A Parkes, Huntington, York.
Now all the backslapping and congratulatory letters are all but over, people will get what they deserve once Coun Alexander and his crew have drained the coffers dry.
The £1 million austerity cuts were imposed on the Lib Dems from above because the last Labour government left the country broke. Stick your heads in the sand at your peril, cuts must come from somewhere to get this country back on track.
Forty-four per cent of the electorate bothered to turn out to vote for all party candidates. I would call that apathy and not victory for Labour.
Bob Waite, Holgate, York.
