Elvington Harriers won the under-10s football gala tournament at Ulleskelf.
They started the day solidly, winning all of their group ‘A’ matches – scoring ten goals without conceding any to top the group.
Drawn against Howden AFC in the semi-final, Elvington went ahead through Tom Blades only for Howden to level just before half-time. With no more goals the tie went to a penalty shoot out.
Elvington prevailed thanks to great saves from goalkeeper Theo Bristowe to tee up a final against Kippax Athletic.
The showdown was again tense and tight and scoreless prompting another nerve-jangling penalty shoot-out.
Successful strikes from Isaac Overton, Tom Blades, Charlie Laudage and Rob Boddy were matched by Kippax to go to sudden death.
Defiant goalkeeper Bristowe saved the Kippax spot-kick, leaving skipper Overton to step forward, score and secure victory.
Said Elvington manager Paul Blades: “The players all showed composure and courage to win not one but two penalty shoot-outs.
“And a special word should go to our goalkeeper Theo. He made outstanding saves in both.”
