A 75-YEAR-old walker remains in hospital after being hit by a motorcyclist yesterday near Stokesley.

The lady, who had been walking the Cleveland Way, was crossing the road to Claybank car park, about 2.5 miles from the village of Chop Gate in the direction of Stokesley, when she was hit by a motorcyclist.

The woman, from Warwickshire, suffered serious injuries and is still in the James Cook hospital in Middlesbrough.

The motorcyclist, who was riding a large capacity sports bike, which could have been a Honda, may have been travelling with second motorcyclist, police said.

They said both motorcyclists stopped a short distance away to look back momentarily before continuing in the Stokesley direction.

Road policing group officers from North Yorkshire Police have appealed for anyone with information, or who saw the motorcyclists before or after the incident to come forward.

Traffic Sergeant Neil Campbell, said: “I would appeal to the rider of the motorcycle involved to do the right thing and come forward. The lady has sustained serious injuries and the incident has been compounded by the rider leaving the scene.

“We also appeal to the second motorist as he or she holds vital evidence and we need to eliminate that person from our inquiry.

“These actions will not be tolerated and we’re actively following several lines of inquiry to trace the riders involved.”
