THE visit of US President Barack Obama to Britain was more of a state visit than a “business” meeting.
He was after prime photo-shoots, and being with our Queen was ideal for his re-election campaign. Both President Obama and Prime Minister David Cameron claimed our allied forces had “broken the momentum” of the Taliban, and soon we would be seeing our service men and women return. I do not believe that for a moment.
Britain and the USA are in a financial mess; both have huge debts, both have very high unemployment, and both have a general public who see the war in Afghanistan as futile and unwinnable. Both countries need an excuse to get out, so they tell us the enemy is broken – rubbish.
We are fighting the wrong enemy (the Taliban) in the wrong country (Afghanistan). Our enemy is al Qaida and they are in Pakistan.
Obama’s speech writers are exceedingly clever – they make the audience think it is hearing something from Obama that he actually is not saying at all.
President Obama is far more interested in being re-elected than he is in Libya, Yemen, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Morocco.
