RECENTLY, I was reading how all sorts of stringent cuts were taking place in Britain, courtesy of the Tory government, ably assisted by the Lib-Dems, and how such cuts would impact principally on the poorest sections of the population, and in particular on public libraries.

This week, I’m reading how umpteen millions are being cut from public libraries by the billionaire Mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg. Rather a neat, if underhanded, way of pinching pennies from the poor.

Alms for the love of Armageddon, would that be?
