BOSSES at a women’s open prison near York are looking to create more car-parking spaces because they are running out of room for vehicles.
HM Prison Service has submitted an application to City of York Council to provide 20 extra spaces at Askham Grange, in Askham Richard.
A statement sent to the council by the service’s agents, W R Dunn & Co, said the site currently did not have enough space during busy periods and said plans to bring extra staff to the prison would make the problems worse.
The firm also said the extra spaces would remove the need for people to park in nearby streets. A decision is expected in July.
