YORK Blind and Partially-Sighted society is looking for volunteers to get involved in a Sportathon to raise funds.

The society has expanded this year’s big fundraiser from a swimathon last year, to include tackling a climbing wall and cycling.

Ian Wood, trustee of the society, said: “We hope to swim the channel, cycle from coast to coast and climb Ben Nevis.”

The charity is organising the event with Energise sports centre and hopes users of the gym will help it take on these challenges and raise money.

Volunteers set their own targets and pledged to contribute part of the challenge between June 13 and 18.

He said he hopes the wider variety of activities would attract new audiences and give more people the chance to get involved.

He said: “We raised £1,000 last year with 30 people taking part and I hope this year it’s going to be bigger and better. I hope to have 60 people involved and raise £2,000.”

Sponsorship sheets are available from Ian at the Energise sports centre or the office of York Blind and Partially Sighted Society.

Ian said he is also looking for volunteers to help fundraise and organise events. If you are interested, phone the charity on 01904 636269.
