A DECISION to resurface a North Yorkshire footpath which ends abruptly at bushes has been condemned as “a complete waste of money”.
North Yorkshire County Council has been accused of getting its priorities wrong after carrying out repairs and resurfacing to a pavement off Harrogate Road in Ripon.
Coun Andrew Williams, who represents Ripon South, said: “There’s a song called Road To Nowhere, but it seems the council are on the pavement to nowhere. There are pavements on the Holmefield estate where kerbs are missing, and if the council had money to spend, it would be better spent on those than on a pavement nobody will walk along.”
A council spokeswoman said the resurfacing was part of a package of work on 3.7 miles of pavements in Ripon and Nidderdale. She said the work, which included cutting back overhanging vegetation, would prolong the life of the footway by resealing the surface to prevent frost damage.
