Selby plumber Malcolm Anderson and his son, Mark, show off the medals they gained after they took part in the Edinburgh marathon.

The family are taking part in various events raising cash for cancer research in memory of Malcolm’s wife, Jean, who died of cancer.

Malcolm completed the course, his first marathon, in six hours 43 minutes, while Mark strode home in five and a half hours. Mark had taken part the previous week in a Jane Tomlinson 10k run and their next joint event is a mile long swim across Windermere.

In July, Mark is hoping to complete five marathons in five days and his wife Helen, sisters Dawn and Debbie and friend Jessica are also competing in various events, including the Sheffield Race For Life and the Jane Tomlinson 10k in York.

The family are hoping to raise £3,000 by the end of the year and are already halfway with a total of £1,550.
