THE boss of a York company cited in an international arms smuggling investigation has resigned, it has emerged.
Documents filed with Companies House show John Camsey Smith has stood down as managing director of Jago Ltd, which is based in St Saviourgate in York city centre.
One of the firm’s fellow directors, Karl Kleber, recently pleaded guilty in the United States to arms smuggling charges.
The company has also been named in American court documents about the case, although there is no suggestion that either the company or Mr Camsey Smith has done anything wrong or been charged with any offence.
German-born Kleber, 56, admitted breaching a US ban on importing Chinese weaponry, by importing 5,000 Chinese-manufactured, 75-round capacity AK-47 rifle drum magazines into the US, while making out they were made in Bulgaria.
Documents filed to Companies House show that Mr Camsey Smith resigned from Jago on April 8. He is still listed as secretary of York Guns in Dunnington, whose former managing director Gary Hyde faces similar charges to Kleber as well as separate charges in England over the supply of 32 million rounds of ammunition and tens of thousands of guns.
The Press has tried to contact Mr Camsey Smith, but has been unable to do so.
